Zambia 1- 2 Nigeria

Nigeria – Alex Iwobi 32′, Kelechi Iheanacho 42′

Zambia – C. Mbesuma 71′

The Super Eagles have started their World Cup qualification campaign with a victoryagainst Zambia.

Nigeria got on to a good start, troubling the Zambian defence right from the beginning. Moses Simon looked dangerous with his set pieces.

As the game progressed, the home side found a momentum and started creating chances. But Nigeria were clearly the better side on the pitch.

2 minutes after the half-hour mark, the visitors took the lead through Alex Iwobi. A horrible defending from the home side allowed Iwobi to volley the ball into the back of the net.

Zambia fired up their game after the goal but were unable to find an equaliser. Minutes before the break, Iheanacho doubled the lead with a stunning solo effort.

The home side came back brilliantly in the second half. After creating several chances, they opened the scoring in the 71′.

A mistake from defender Kenneth Omeruo allowed Mbesuma to score from close range. Zambia continued to attack as Nigeria sat deep to prevent the lead.

Though Zambia were able to put pressure on the visitors during the closing minutes, they couldn’t find a way to score a goal. With the victory, Nigeria go top in Group B with 3 points.
