Earlier this afternoon Uruguay earned a victory in thier opening match against Egypt thanks to a Jose Giminez header from a Carlos Sanchez’s free-kick.

Uruguay were far from their best throughout at the Ekeratinburg Arena and it looked as though a series of wasted chances from record-scorer Luis Suarez.

Without Salah, Egypt lacked a cutting edge and had looked on course to earn a point in their first match at a World Cup finals since 1990.

However, Gimenez’s towering late header coming moments after Edinson Cavani had hit the post with a free kick gave all three points to the South Americans pulling them level with hosts Russia at the top of the standings.

Meanwhile Iran earned their first win at a World Cup finals since 1998 as Morocco substitute Aziz Bouhaddouz scored an own goal in injury time.

The result was hard on the African side, who wasted numerous chances in the first half and were denied later on in the match when Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand who produced a fine save from Hakim Ziyech.

But Iran took the victory, only their second in World Cup history after a 2-1 win over the United States at France 1998.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s late free kick earned Portugal a point in their opening 2018 World Cup fixture, as the European champions played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Spain in Sochi this evening.

The Real Madrid talisman tucked in from the spot in the 4th minute after he was caught by Nacho who stuck out a leg in the 18yrd box to give a way the penalty,David silva came close to levelling up for the spanairds but he only shot wide.


Portugal looked lively with thier counter attacks and should have douled thier lead but Goncarlo guedes made a mess wirth his poor first touch.

Diego Costa punished the portuguese just moments later after aggressively winning the ball of Pepe ,held of Jose fonte and picked out the bottom corner to make it 1-1.

Spain came alive after the Costa equalizer as they had another chance ,when Isco sent a bullet shot against the underside of the bar – goal-line technology confirming that it did not cross the line, despite the midfielder’s protests,Andreas Iniesta also came close to doubling the lead but he shot right at Patricio .

Portugal went into the interval a goal in front, though, with Ronaldo’s routine 20-yarder somehow squirming through the hands of De Gea.

10 minutes into the second half ,the 2010 winners to get back on level terms for a second time, courtesy of Costa’s close-range finish from a Sergio Busquets knockdown at the back post.

The game was then turned on its head less than three minutes later, as Nacho redeemed himself for his early challenge on Ronaldo by guiding a perfectly-struck half-volley past Patricio from outside the box.
Costa spurned the chance to score his own World Cup hat-trick when dragging a decent opportunity wide, with Iago Aspas coming on in his place for the final 13 minutes, he also tested Patricio soon after being introduced.

On his 36th outing at a major international tournament,Ronaldo sent a free kick dipping over the Spain wall, completing the 51st hat-trick in World Cup finals history and the 51st hat-trick of his senior career.
