Reports has confirmed that Vehicular movements and commercial activities were yesterday crumbled along the Ughelli/Asaba Expressway as protesters from Iyede in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State over the continual rape and harassment by armed herdsmen.

Armed with leaves, the protesters from Ekiugbo-Iyede, Oghara-Iyede, Oteri-Iyede, Eboh-Iyede, and Ebor-Iyede communities barricaded the busy road as early as 6am lasting for about six hours.

It took the timely intervention of the President General of the Isoko Development Union, IDU, Chief Iduh Amadhe, Vice Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area, Mr Anthony Odhe and security operatives who visited the scene to bring the situation under control.

According to the Chairman of Ekiugbo-Iyede community, Pastor David Onobreme, he described the continual harassment and rape of women on their farmlands by herdsmen as unbearable.

According to him, “They have been destroying our crops with their cows and when we challenge them, they cut our people with cutlasses and chase them from the bush. Our people are now apprehensive and they can no longer go to their farms. We have written series of protest letters to the state government and security agencies on the situation, but nothing has been done to address the problem”, he said.
