The 23-year-old undergraduate of the University of Port Harcourt, Ifeanyichukwu Maxwell Dike, who was accused of raping and killing an 8-year-old girl, Chikamso Victory for ritual, has exonerated his Investigative Police Officer, Sergeant Johnbosco Okoroeze, from his escape, three weeks ago.

Ifeanyi, who was paraded yesterday, in Port Harcourt after he was rearrested at Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State back to the Rivers State Police Command, told newsmen that he took the advantage of the dark environment at the State Criminal Investigation Department to escape. He pleaded for forgiveness and mercy.

Dike had killed Chikamso and removed all her vital organs and was on his way to dispose of the remains of his victim before he was arrested by a local vigilante group in Okporo community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The suspected ritualist had escaped from the custody of State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, after making confessionary statements to the crime, and was rearrested in Plateau State on Thursday last week.

Dike told newsmen that he took advantage of the darkness in the premises of SCID when he was asked to go into the cell and escaped, adding that nobody knew when he had sneaked out.

He said: “At the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, after I entered my statement late in the evening of the day of my first parade, my IPO asked me to go inside the cell that was when I had the opportunity to run away. My IPO did not help my escape. I know what I did was wrong, please forgive me and have mercy.”

Dike disclosed that he was rearrested, when he got himself into another trouble while looking for food to eat.
