​Five people have been rushed to hospital after a car ploughed into pedestrians in south-east London

One woman was reportedly trapped under the car after it ploughed into her early this morning

Police said the driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and dangerous driving.

A spokesman said there was no suggestion the car was driven into crowds intentionally.

Officers were called to the scene in Bellingham, south-east London, shortly after 8.20am.

A car had crashed into passersby before hurtling into a wall near Catford bus garage.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and police are investigating.

One witness wrote on social media: “Big car crash on Bromley Road.

“Tons of police, ambulances, even helicopter landed in PC World.

“One person trapped under a car and two others injured at the car wash. My thoughts and prayers are with them.”

The road remains closed as investigations are carried out.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 8.20am on Sunday, 26 February, to reports of a car in collision with a wall and a number of pedestrians on Bromley Road in Bellingham.

Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance are in attendance.

“Five people were treated at the scene. They have all been taken to south and east London hospitals.
