Costa has no future at Chelsea following a fall-out with Antonio Conte earlier this summer

The Spain international has made it public knowledge his preference would be a move back to Atletico Madrid to work with Diego Simeone.

But the La Liga club’s transfer ban prohibits them signing any new players until the January transfer window.

With Costa unlikely to be involved in Chelsea’s squad for the upcoming season, he is understood to be keen on a loan move to play regular first team football.

Costa was reportedly offered to Milan a fortnight ago but they were wary of striking a deal for the 28-year-old due to his intentions to join Atletico Madrid.

But the report claims Milan are considering a move for Costa if he is able to agree to a permanent deal or join on a season-long loan.

Milan chairman Marco Fassone revealed this week they have been in talk’s with Costa’s agent Jorge Mendes.

“I would prefer to avoid talking about players from other teams; Diego Costa is a great player, but a Chelsea player,” Fassone said

“We went to see Jorge Mendes; there is a lot you can talk to him about.

“Costa is a great player but he is of Chelsea. That’s all.”
