Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been defended by one of his former players, Samir Nasri, who has said that he can’t be blamed for the club’s troubles. Nasri also added that the blame lies more with the players and the board. The Frenchman, who played for the north London club for three years, excelled as an attacking midfielder under Wenger, scoring 27 goals. He was brought to the club from Marseille in 2008.
Before he left for Manchester City in the summer of 2011, Nasri had some memorable times with the Gunners, and reflected on his former team’s struggles this season.

Speaking to SkySports, he said, “You cannot criticise a guy like that, it is impossible. Arsenal was a big club but he made it even bigger.”

When asked about the problems at the club, he said, “I don’t think it’s him, there are a lot of things at Arsenal; the players, the board, that need to be checked out and not just Arsene.”

The Sevilla midfielder also addressed how important Wenger was for him when he joined Arsenal and reiterated that the problems are much deeper than the manager.

“It’s hard for me to say something about him because I owe him a lot of things. I came to the Premier League because of him and I have had a good career because of him too.”

Nasri is currently playing a starring role at Sevilla in La Liga, having moved there on loan from Manchester City in the summer. Given the playmaker’s role, he is enjoying himself and has helped his team challenge Real Madrid and Barcelona for the title.
