The goalkeeper has often been forced to play second fiddle to Petr Cech during his time in north London and he was linked with a move to Fenerbahce recently.

Arsene Wenger admits 'it was not easy’ to keep goalkeeper David Ospina at Arsenal this summer

The Turkish giants were ready to offer the Colombian a spot in the first team and Champions League football, but the glovesman has instead decided to stay at fight for the number one spot at the Emirates Stadium.

And Wenger has confessed it was tough to keep hold of the 28-year-old amid strong interest from other clubs

“It was not easy, because of course all these players want to play,” said the Gunners boss.

“They are top level players, they want to go to the World Cup but he will get a number of games here and he will fight with Petr Cech.

“The fight is quite open. At the moment I play Petr Cech but this battle is not won definitely by Petr Cech because I rate Ospina highly and anyway, we play other competitions and he will play.”
