Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has ruled Spanish duo Cesc Fabregas and Alvaro Morata out of the Blues’ second leg semi-final Carabao Cup clash against Arsenal at the Emirates on Wednesday.

Chelsea take a 0-0 first leg result to the Emirates with the hope of advancing to the League Cup final for for the first time since the 2014/2015 season.

Speaking in his press conference on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s clash, Conte said: “Morata and Fabregas are out, they are not available for Arsenal game. Then I have to check a couple of situations.

“Morata has a problem in his back. I have to check a couple of situations before making the best decision.

“Every game is different. The game was different and in this case you have two games to reach the final to play.

“For sure there is a target for both teams to reach the final. This is a good target for us and Arsenal.

“For this reason after a 0-0 draw for sure the game will be very open.

“For me and the players it is an important target for me.

“In my first season and a half I have the opportunity to win the league, reach FA Cup final and play community Shield.

“Now I have the chance to reach the Carabao Cup, it is important for me and my players.

“When you play against Arsenal for sure you must be prepared to suffer without the ball,” said the Italian.

“They like to bring many players in the box and find combinations. For this reason we must pay great attention. We have to be compact with the ball but at the same time dangerous when on the ball.

“Last season we saw two different games. The first one was a disaster, we lost 3-0. The second game at home we won 3-1.

“In this season the first game in the league ended 0-0 and 2-2 in the second game. We are showing to be at the same point, with the same value.

“Tomorrow there is not another game and we don’t have another possibility and we need to try to reach the final.”

And when questioned about the latest with the club’s pursuit of the former Manchester City striker Edinburgh Dzeko now at Roma, and his team-mate, defender Emerson Palmieri, Conte said:”I don’t know. When the club has news, you will know.”
